Clean Water

According to the World Health Organization, around 1.4 million people die every year from diarrheal disease attributed to unsafe water supply or inadequate sanitation and hygiene. Improving the water supply reduces morbidity by 21%. Microbial contaminants in drinking water such as E.coli, cholera, parasites, and viruses pose serious health risks to those with weaker immune systems, especially children and the elderly. In addition, chemical contaminants may lead to long term health issues. In developing countries, long distances must be traveled regularly in order to obtain usable water and even then there is no guarantee the water is free from contaminants. In many countries, traveling and obtaining water is a job left for women and children. If a local and safe were provided, it will reduce mortality rate and hospitalization, reduce travel which can in turn lead to more productivity (education/increased work force), and overall improvement in quality of life.

Our partners’ are able to offer several options for water purification, all of which can be utilized in both small and large scales. For chemical methods, our partners offer a mixed oxidant solution. Conventional chlorination of water produces by-products, some of which are carcinogenic. The mixed oxidant solution has been successful in reducing the formation of these by-products. It has also been shown in numerous test to provide a faster and more effective microbial inactivation than the same dose of standard chlorine. This technology allows the ability to maintain more persistent and consistent chlorine residuals with lower doses. This method of purification not only inactivates harmful contaminants, but also improves odor and taste.

A chemical free mother offered by our partners utilizes UV technologies to disinfect water. This method allows for the clean water without the need for chemicals. UV treatment has the advantage that it is free of chemicals and potential carcinogenic and mutagenic disinfection by-products and environmental pollutants.

Another alternative provided by our partners is a 7-fold system purification. This system first removes basic impurities through a series of filtrations. Following the filtrations, the system utilizes reverse osmosis technology for additional contaminant removal and then ultraviolet light to purify water. This through system has been proven through numerous third party laboratory tests to verify its effectiveness against bacterial, parasitic, and viral contaminants as well as remove suspended solids and excess chemicals.

Water ozonation is a technology proven effective about a century ago in water purification. Ozone has been shown to be more effective against bacterial and viral contaminants than conventional chlorination. Ozone also reduces the amount of certain metals which can reduce foul tastes or odors in the water. Our partner’s system works by introducing ozone into the water supply. The advantage of ozonation is that it doesn’t add chemicals into the water supply while being stronger and faster than conventional treatment methods.
